Howdy, boys and girls, and welcome back to the Fraternal Order of the Groundhog.

After technical difficulties prevented us from holding our annual Celebration and Reduction Ceremony in 2009, we felt we couldn’t properly start a new decade without getting everyone together this winter. So — we formally announce Groundhog Weekend 2010: February 5-7, at Mohican State Park, not too far from our old stomping grounds in Mansfield.

That’s right, kids — we have two adjacent cabins at Mohican, reserved and ready for the festivities. And while those cabins will comfortably accommodate six sleepers apiece, Mohican’s facilities and location provide us with some flexibility — those who may want bit more comfort can reserve a room at the park’s luxurious lodge, or if there are those nearby who wish to commute for the weekend, they should be able to do so with no trouble.

As was the case when we traveled to the campground near Lisbon, taking the show on the road will require a financial contribution on the part of everyone who attends, an amount to be determined by the number of those attending. We have about a two-week period when we can cancel one of the reserved cabins at minimal cost, so it’s important that we figure out who’s coming — and who’s staying in the cabins — as soon as possible. To that end, please let us know by Jan. 18 AT THE LATEST if A) you’re attending, B) you wish to stay in one of the cabins and C) whether you’ll be with us both nights or just Saturday. Once we have a handle on how many folks are coming, we’ll be able to give you an idea of the financial details.

In the next couple weeks, we’ll let y’all know more details about food, activities, themes and all the other silliness. Pledges, you ask? If you’ve got someone in mind who’d be up for that kind of abuse on very short notice, let us know, and we’ll see what we can do.
